DISABILITIES, CONDITIONS AND IMPAIRMENTS
Below is a list of links to the main UK organisations specialising in disability in general as well as specific conditions and impairments.
Bear in mind that it can be dangerous to a child's health and safety to apply general information found on a website - even a reputable site. While background reading can be extremely useful, you should check with experts who know the child's particular condition and context - school nurse, therapists, GP, etc. For volunteers at the Newman Trust, specific information particular to the child will be provided at the very start of the holiday, before or during training.

CCLD briefing packs - these packs, produced by the SSATrust, provide initial information about conditions which often overlap with others to form the complex make up of children with complex learning difficulties and disabilities (CLDD). The topics include: foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), attachment disorder, premature birth, rare chromosomal disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mental health, sensory impairment, fragile X syndrome, effects of smoking and drug use during pregnancy.
