The Newman Holiday Trust is a volunteer-led charity running week-long holidays for disabled children across the UK. Every holiday is made possible by volunteers — and without enough volunteers, these holidays simply can’t happen.

Right now, we urgently need more volunteers so all of our holidays can run in full.
Where we need volunteers most
We are currently short of volunteers (particularly men) for:

South West – Barton Camp, (1–9 August 2026)

If we don’t fill these places, some children may miss out on their holiday this year.
What you’ll do
As a volunteer, you’ll usually be paired 1:1 with a child for the week.
You’ll help them:
- Take part in activities
- Try new things
- Build confidence and independence
- Have a brilliant summer holiday
For many children, this is a rare opportunity — and it also gives families some much-needed rest.
What it’s like
This is a hands-on, active role — and at times it can be full-on.
But it’s also a really good week.
You’ll be part of a team from day one. There’s a strong sense of teamwork, plenty of laughs, and a shared focus on giving the children the best possible experience.
Most people sign up on their own — and quickly feel part of the group.
Many volunteers come once and end up coming back every year.
Do I need experience?
No.
You don’t need any qualifications or previous experience. Just:
- Energy
- Patience
- Empathy
- Willingness to get stuck in
We provide:
- Training before the holiday
- Support throughout the week
- An experienced and welcoming team
If travel costs are a barrier, we can help cover these.
What to expect
Volunteering is a real commitment. If you accept a place, a child will be depending on you to be there for the full week and give your best throughout.
It can be tiring at times — but it is also incredibly rewarding.
